Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in the fields of film, television and theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer in her role on the Showtime program Soul Food. She is now known by her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since the age of five and was awarded the Best Actress prize at a Maryland high school contest. After working in theater and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she earned a certificate in acting from New York University. The actress received lots of praise for her debut major role as a character in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. After that, she appeared in films such as "Boogie Nights Spark" and "Blue Streak". The TV series Soul Food' was immensely loved. Her TV appearances included Second Time Around and Empire. She appeared on stage for a number of shows early on in her career. Parker is also involved in politics, is married to model-actor Boris Kodjoe. Two children were born to them.

Born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed world travels and a variety of different cultures from a young age. After attending boarding school over seven years London Her family then moved to Toronto Canada in which she lived for most of her youth as well as her early years of adulthood. Contractor was a classical ballet student in Toronto. Additionally, she excelled academically. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts which is a highly specialized public arts high school in which she was not just a dancer but also studied theater. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that performing would be her career. She danced for over a decade. After she completed high school, she was offered an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year, she was awarded the role of lead. Her work was highly acclaimed for the 92 shows that she performed in. The play won her the 2002 award for the most outstanding production of the Year by Canadian Critics. She accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's conservatory, a program where only four men and eight women can take the 20-week crash training in classical theater. Her place in the upcoming production was secured, and she was chosen in the play as Hermia.
